ARES PROJECT

ARES is a scientific project dealing with the assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures, mainly made of masonry and timber. Project objectives are divided into multiple phases: 1) Development of concise databases of Croatian building stock and STAR assessment techniques. 2) Modelling, analyzing and predicting performance of case studies with mechanical properties obtained by assessments. 3) Preparing a probabilistic database of material properties for existing structures. 4) Updating the knowlegde and give insights of reliability methods to practical engineers. 5) Optimizing models for prediction of structural performance. 6) Evaluation of reliability and development of design guidance. 7) Establish research network with the goal of increasing the number of funded research projects and international cooperation. The aim of the project is to improve the current knowledge regarding the assessment and strengthening of structures, with a focus on a more reliable design and maintenance process for existing masonry buildings. The project is funded by Croatian Science Foundation, grant UIP-2019-04-3749, and will last for 5 years (2020-2025).
