ARIAS (UK) is a not for profit organisation formed in 1991, with the support of the legal profession, to promote and assist in the development of insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution through arbitration, and to make it more responsive to the needs of the industry worldwide.
It has since established and manages a panel of expert arbitrators in the re/insurance field and published a set of Arbitration Rules and standard arbitration clauses which it keeps under review. The details of these are contained on our website. The ARIAS (UK) Management Committee is made up of market members, senior arbitrators and members of the legal profession.
The panel of arbitrators and mediators comprises persons who have, in the main, occupied senior positions in the re/insurance market as an underwriter, broker or claims executive. There are also some who have credentials in other areas of expertise relating to re/insurance, notably legal and accountancy. Most of the panel members are based in England but there are also a number based in other parts of Europe and in the USA. The panel members are provided with tutorials on arbitration practice and are encouraged to attend the Society’s (annual) conferences to supplement their knowledge.
The Society’s supporting corporate members comprise firms engaged in the re/insurance market as solicitors, insurers, reinsurers or brokers and other advisers.
Any individual may join the Society on their own behalf as a supporter.
