Ariel Sharon Park is Israel's metropolitan park, situated in the heart of the country's busiest metropolis. Erected in 2009 following Israel's government resolution no. 3562 (dated 20th April 2005), the park is managed by Ariel Sharon Park Ltd. (PBC) - a non-profit governmental company subordinated to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and dedicated to the establishment, management and development of the park and its infrastructures and assets. This unique site, covering almost 2,000 acres, is a global symbol and model for environmental repair and ecological restoration. Through complex engineering processes, the former Hiriya Landfill ("Hiriya Garbage Mountain") an environmental hazard of waste, stench, spontaneous combustion (due to the emission of methane gas) and even posing a substantial aviation risk, transformed into the "Mountain Complex" - a green and vibrant hill covered with a variety of plants from around the world, lawns, a lake and one of Israel's most demanded locations for performances, the 'Skyline' site. The park's northern entrance includes a restoration of the historical "Shalem Farm", designated picnic areas, a free Wi-Fi and AC-outlet zone open workspace, playgrounds, a children's theater, a biological variety lake and birdwatching site.
