As per UNICEF estimates, over 6.5 million children are currently not in primary school and another 2.7 million are not in lower secondary school. A bad or no education means literally millions of children are being left behind in Pakistan.
Many children work in factories and workshops which deprives them of both a happy childhood as well as basic education that a child deserves. This is a sad depiction of the depleted education system.
Arjumand foundation has a mission to change the educational landscape in Pakistan by imparting basic education and skills to the vulnerable members of our society i.e. women and children within our society.
We call our school "Roshan Kal" which means a brighter tomorrow. The objective of our school is to act as a pipeline for children aged 5-10 years old, who never had any exposure to a school in the past.
We place these children into basic literacy programs where we primarily teach them Maths, English, Urdu and then facilitate their transition to government run schools for middle level education.
We have also incorporated vocational education for girls as part of our curriculum. A vocational education will assist women to gain useful and practical skills. This will enable them to have economic independence and will empower them to either work part time or establish their own line of work.
