Artur Aníbal Esteves Salgado began his activity as an independent entrepreneur in 1952, commercializing all kinds of medical and surgical materials focusing his activity only in the North of Portugal at that time.
His products were updated according to the requests and influence of doctors when they went traveling abroad to congresses or to train in a specific hospital for their medical and surgical specializations.
After 25 years of commercializing materials related to all branches of medicine, and perhaps influenced by friends in the area of Orthopaedics, the entrepreneur decided to dedicate himself only to the trade of Orthopaedics and Traumatology material.
Due to the growth of the activity, and in order to become more competitive with other companies operating in the same sector, the entrepreneur found it necessary to set up a company by quotas and to change facilities.

After more than half a century of existence, ARTUR SALGADO, S.A. became the leading Portuguese company in the field, maintaining itself as a representative of some of the most prestigious foreign companies in the sector, extending its activity throughout the country and continuing to be leader in the market of import and commercialization of Orthopaedics.
ARTUR SALGADO, S.A. has established itself as the only genuinely national company, participating in the industrial activity through a factory in Albergaria, and collaborating in the high-tech research of bone grafts, growing factors and so on.
Associated with the Health Cluster Portugal, ARTUR SALGADO, S.A. is in the first line of scientific research collaborating with INEB (National Institute of Biomedical Engineering).
