Over 5 million out-of-operating-room emergency intubations are carried out in the US annually, in which airway experts are scares, rendering the far less experienced medical staff in-charge. Furthermore, patients who require an emergent intubation are usually the most unstable and challenging to intubate. This injurious combination of inexperience and volatility lead to over 40% of life-threatening complications and $1Bn per annum in increased medical care. ASAP View is developing an autonomous intubating device for the purpose of minimising intubation failures by means of image processing and robotics. The device will possess the intelligence and technical prowess of an experienced physician, thus enabling a safe and precise intubation at all times, regardless of the operator’s training, capabilities and resources.
