Communities in conflict-affected and climate-impacted regions face daunting challenges: fragile markets, fragmented value chains, and severely underutilized assets despite possessing diverse human, social, natural, physical, and other resources. This reality often traps populations in cycles of dependency and vulnerability. Born from years of collaborative work and incubated within the UNDP Sudan Accelerator Lab, SAS Foundation for Community Assets Development was established to transform this reality. Inspired by the Sudanese dialect for the Arabic word “Asas,” meaning foundation or bedrock, SAS is a social enterprise dedicated to reshaping market dynamics and empowering communities to achieve livelihood sovereignty, sustainable development, and lasting peace. Our mission is to catalyze, accelerate, and achieve the effective and sustainable utilization of community assets by introducing innovative business models, facilitating access to critical information, and leveraging advanced technology to promote transparency and build trust among all stakeholders. We aim to redefine value creation and exchange in fragile economies, facilitating the essential transition from emergency response to strategic sustainable development, from conflict to reconciliation, and from dependency to sovereignty.
