ASCE or the American Society of Civil Engineers is an organization that represents members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. Founded in 1852, its purpose is the advancement of the science of civil engineering and enhancement of human welfare through activities of society members.
A part of this organization is a student chapter in the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT).Every year in the month of March the International Civil Engineering Symposium or ICES is conducted that brings together students of different colleges to celebrate this noble branch of engineering. Various events ,workshops and conferences are conducted providing students with opportunities to hardwire their knowledge, learn new technology and create innovative master pieces.
Another part of ASCE is their technical team EKLAVYA which takes part in the International Canoe Competition conducted every year in North Carolina. ASCE-VIT has won many laurels and was adjudged the best ASCE chapter in India in the ASCE Student India Conference.
Since its inception, ASCE has been making a mark in VIT. In 2015 and 2016 ASCE won the best chapter award among over 50 chapters in VIT. ASCE-VIT consistently conducts informative class room events to make people aware of the recent advancements in the field. It has a long history of organising mega successful events for Riviera and Gravitas such as Jenga Reloaded and Suspendo and continues to do so with the same panache.
ASCE-VIT provides a platform for civil engineers, and a way to vicariously be part of the rich co-curricular culture of VIT. Not only does it contribute to ASCE globally with the insights of young scientific minds towards the constantly budding field of civil engineering, but also gives students the opportunity to explore the discipline holistically.This is how symbiotically, ASCE helps provide engineers who can excel theoretically as well as practically.
