About ASET - African Schools Empowerment Technology
ASET is aware of the great digital divide between rural underprivileged schools and their urban privileged counterparts .It is our mission to bridge this gap to bring rural schools on par with urban. To address this we have developed 3 programs .They target different areas in the Education system. The combined effect of these programs will produce global ICT literate citizens who are able to competently use 21C technology. IT will enable these candidates to also view ICT as a possible career choice. At stage 1 we target the Educators. It has been proven that in the current day learners are not inspired by Educators who lack ICT skills. They will be the main drivers in promoting ICT in schools .To this end we have developed SACE approved ICT courses specifically aimed at educating Educators in ICT basics and then moving on to more complex tools that they could use in the classroom to promote Interactive learning. At stage 2 we focus on Learners. We Introduce Logical thinking concepts to them through the use of coding programs. At ASET we believe that many young learners do not view coding as a future career because they were simply never introduced to it .Our aim is to change this mindset .Our Team has put together fun and interesting visual coding programs to start the learners on this discovery path and then we will introduce more complex programs to them and ultimately, we will introduce them to Python, a command line programming language used in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. It will be a structured learning path. We acknowledge that school dropouts are part of the schooling system. This has resulted in a high number of unemployed youths who sometimes turn to crime as a way to feed themselves. To this end we have developed SETA accredited programs where these school leavers will earn a basic formal qualification to enable them to seek employment in the high-volume base occupations such as Supermarket Cashiers. Tgis will conclude stage 3 of our programs .
