EPIS is a privately funded non-governmental organization, established in 2006, after a ’call for social inclusion’ from the President of the Portuguese Republic, and has more than 250 corporate and business associates.
EPIS’s main stakeholders are: the Ministry of Education and Science, more than 75 municipalities, at least 400 schools nationwide, 84 full-time mediators and about 100 volunteers from EPIS’s corporate partners.
EPIS's mission is focused on promoting social inclusion through education. Since 2006, has been focusing on training students with the main purpose of fulfilling their life potential through Education, Training and Professional Insertion.
The flagship project of EPIS, “Mediators for school success”, is an intervention program focused on empowering low-performing adolescent students for school success and on preventing them from leaving school early, motivating them to achieve the 12 mandatory school years in Portugal.
In order to reinforce the mediation program, EPIS has created a corporate volunteer program that allows professionals to be mentors of these students, to help them to find motivation and develop capacities to understand their professional vocation.
