Athos electrolyzer technology directly synthesizes methanol using CO₂, water, and renewable electricity. Our functionalized catalyst affords near-infinite scalability, only limited by supply of CO2, clean energy, and water and is not limited by biomass supply, or H2 production. Unlike thermocatalytic methods, our process skips the inefficient and costly step of hydrogen production, directly converting CO₂ and water into methanol at room temperature. Sustainably produced methanol is a cornerstone of the circular carbon economy, closing the carbon loop while meeting growing energy demands in hard-to-abate sectors."
