About African Union Peace Fund
The African Union Peace Fund (AUPF) is an innovative financing initiative designed to strengthen our capacity to address peace issues by prioritizing mediation and conflict prevention. It embodies the ideals of our founding fathers’ Pan-Africanism, leveraging our collective resources to advance peace efforts and drive development. Recognizing the need for self-financing, the African Union Assembly made a significant decision in 2018 to revitalize the Peace Fund. The revitalized AU Peace Fund demonstrates the major shift in how peace and security activities on the Continent are funded using a home-grown mechanism that ensures the financing mechanism is reliable, predictable, and sustainable. Now operational with the Crisis Reserve Facility (CRF) and several pilot projects, the Peace Fund actively engages with stakeholders through its Resource Mobilization efforts, ensuring strong collaboration and support. As a key pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the Peace Fund is financed through contributions from Member States, both voluntary and assessed. Additionally, it receives support from Development Partners, the private sector, people across the continent, and the African diaspora.
