Audace Sailing Team

University project based in Trieste, winner of the 2021 edition of the 1001VelaCup We're engaged in the design and building of racing sailboats, seeking high performance with a sustainable approach. We experiment green and recyclable materials and environment-friendly manufacturing processes. Student-centered competitions – such as the 1001VelaCup and the SuMoth Challenge – fuel our creativity, push us to continuously innovate. Something more about us: Audace Sailing Team was born in 2019 as a project of the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Trieste. We come from one of the few Maritime Engineering and Naval Architecture schools in our entire country and our project is located in a city, such as Trieste, with a strong seafaring culture deeply embedded in the social fabric of the area. So far, we built two racing boats: Dedalo, a wooden skiff designed using modeFRONTIER - optimization software also used by America's Cup teams - and Lina, one of the few existing sailboats made of a bio based composite material flax fiber , bio based resin and recyclable core). Today AST is a group of more than 70 students from both scientific and humanistic deparments, working together with a multidisciplinary approach.
