The scale of micro- and nanoplastic pollution is becoming increasingly clear, but little is known about how this pollution impacts health. More research is needed, so the EU Horizon 2020 program funded five research projects on the impacts of micro- and nanoplastic on human health. AURORA is one of these projects, and it focuses specifically on understanding the early-life health impacts from exposures to micro- and nanoplastic.
The team of international researchers within AURORA is spread across 11 partner organizations based in 9 different countries. Starting in May 2021 and running for five years, the project is developing an actionable European roadmap for early-life health risk assessment of micro- and nanoplastics to support better regulation and develop safer alternatives.
