Avery's Helpful Hair Kits

Avery’s Helpful Hair Kits provides culturally appropriate haircare resources for foster children with curly and textured hair. Founded by 8-year-old curly girl Avery, we aim to meet an often-overlooked need in the foster care system, helping children feel confident, seen, and valued. Our nonprofit assembles and distributes haircare kits containing products and tools tailored to textured hair, ensuring foster children have access to the resources they need to care for their hair and embrace their unique beauty. We also advocate for systemic change, supporting laws like Illinois HB5097, which mandates culturally appropriate haircare plans for foster youth. Recognized by local leaders and powered by volunteers, donors, and community partners, Avery’s Helpful Hair Kits fosters belonging and self-expression for children in care.
