Approximately 20 million Americans suffer for mild to severe form of pruritus or serious itch. In this space, there is a subset of the population where pruritus or itch is a seriously debilitating condition of worsening quality-of-life, sleep disturbance, depression, severe excoriation, bleeding, and increased mortality risks. Patients that suffer from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have a dire and critical need for therapy in this space.
Focusing on an $800 million market opportunity, Avior is developing the first and only once-daily (qd) non-invasive, oral transmucosal film product (AV104 Transmucosal Film) to treat a neurological morbidity condition in patients with end-stage renal disease Stages III to V - chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus and prurigo nodularis. The product is based on Avior's Speedit™ transmucosal film technology and is designed for fast onset of action, high bioavailability, and to avoid the first-pass metabolism of the liver, and therefore, producing a significant reduction in metabolites, which is critical to reducing the excretory burden in the patient with an impaired kidney function.
To date, we have raised $1.4M in capital financing and have been awarded a non-dilutive NIH grant to continue our critical development.
