The Baltimore Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is a new local organization committed to supporting the advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing opportunities to participate in mentoring, career development and leadership activities in Baltimore and its suburbs. We are part of a non-profit national organization that was established in 1971 with the mission of achieving equality for women in a variety of scientific fields.
Our purpose is to:
• provide networking and leadership opportunities for women in science at all levels of their careers and education
• foster career development and advancement for women in science
• raise public awareness of the scientific and technological skills of women
• work with other scientific and educational organizations in developing effective national and community programs
• provide recognition for women scientists
