Azeraeronavigation (AZANS)

AZANS, Azerbaijan Air Navigation Services Air Traffic Department of "Azerbaijan Hava Yollari" CJSC, was established in 1996 and is the responsible body for ATC within the airspace of Azerbaijan Republic. The airspace of the Azerbaijan Republic is 165,400 sq. km, 86,600 of which is land and 78,800 sq. km is above the Caspian Sea area. The length route network within the airspace of Azerbaijan Republic amounts to around 11,000 km Azerbaijan is farthest ECAC Member State to the east of Europe bordering with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia from the north and east, the Islamic Republic of Iran from the south, and Georgia, Armenia and Turkey from the west. The main goals of “Azeraeronavigation” ATD’s activities include: • provision of air traffic control and safety within the airspace of Azerbaijan Republic • planning and management of the Azerbaijan airspace utilization; design and implementation of an efficient airspace structure, air traffic flow and capacity management; • provision of CNS services; • provision of accurate, timely and complete aeronautical and meteorological services; • provision of assistance to aircraft in distress, provision of arrangements in order to prevent unlawful interference; • provision of training for the personnel of AZANS and improvement of existing procedures in order to meet the international standards AZANS is playing a proactive role in regional and international co-operation in air traffic control. In addition to ICAO and ECAC membership, Azerbaijan is a CANSO Member as well as Azerbaijan is a member of: IATA, IAC, JAA, ATCA, EURASIA CC and is on its way to becoming a member of EUROCONTROL.
