Azore Technologies, LLC was formed to provide a business entity to hold software technologies developed over 20 years by it’s founder, Jeff Franklin. The software suite now goes by the name of Azore® and includes numerical techniques for predicting and visualizing fluid flow and heat transfer physics.
The 20 year development of the software tools was a work of passion by the founder of Azore Technologies that began as a platform to gain an in-depth understanding of these numerical techniques. Early mornings, late nights, weekends, and vacation time was dedicated to this educational process and the resulting software tools.
The original code base for Azore began as a FEA solver developed by Jeff for his Master’s thesis in 1991 to predict laminar flow of condensing steam on a cool pipe. The software was written from scratch using the C programming language and included methods for calculating the linear systems implied by the FEA method as well as linear solvers for calculating the solution to the linear systems.
The first 15 years of development was dedicated to deriving/implementing countless numerical methods for solving the coupled momentum and continuity equations. Most of the methods derived and implemented did not work well or were very inefficient. Each implementation provided a better understanding of what NOT to do and more importantly a sound perspective on what should be done differently. The product of these efforts is a specialized version of the SIMPLE algorithm that used a co-located control volume technique that can accommodate fully polyhedral mesh topologies.
This numerical tool set was then used as a doctoral research platform from 2003 to 2009 by Jeff. The results of this research successfully demonstrated that the Eulerian and Lagrangian reference frames could be coupled together in a stable manner.
In 2007 Airflow Sciences Corporation began experimenting with the commercial use of the Azore suite and now uses these tools daily.
