Since 1993, the annual number of fatalities on mines in SA has reduced from 615 to 73 in 2016 – the direct result of various safety initiatives and modernization. The Suspension Impact Roller or SIR is a direct response to the 4 lives lost at Impala 14 shaft in 2016. This bulk handling innovation will be in all sense of the words a life saver. By technological innovation, research and development DCS approached this mining modernization holistically, and in a system and a people-centric manner.
SIR does not cause friction fire when bearings eventually seizes, (unlike standard rubber impact rollers) because of a steel outer shell and Polymeric Fire Retardant Anti-Static bearing housing design…
Notwithstanding the previously said, mines are strained by the current economic climate. FRAS impact rollers have been an unaffordable expensive product. ARC pledges that even though holding a patent pending claim, SIR will be sold at the market average prices compared to rubber impact rollers.
