Back on Track Nepal Bloom Nepal School Foundation (BNSF)

BNSF is a volunteer lead program dedicated to rebuilding Nepali schools after the recent earthquake. At Back on Track BNSF, our first project is rebuilding the Bloom Nepal School and creating a new hope for the children of Nepal starting from one child at a time. Nepal is a landlocked nation in South Asia located in the Himalayas and bordered by China and India. Nepal is home to 8 of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest – the highest point on Earth. With a population of 27.8 million people and per-capita income 426.48/yr USD, poor by the world standards, the recent disastrous earthquake has affected Nepal’s children more than anyone. Bloom Nepal School: Bloom Nepal School (BNS) provides high-quality, affordable, specialized education and resources to children of Nepal. Founded in 2013 by the MIT alumni Ram Rijal and his 2 high-school friends with a heart in the interest of children, BNS aims at providing interest based education that ignites student’s creative thinking to grow Nepal’s next generation of passionate leaders. With 150 students, BNS was on to a great start and a path to expand its capacity. The massive earthquake on April 25th in Nepal changed everything for BNS. The main building of the school collapsed to the ground; the secondary buildings were damaged and uninhabitable; two long serving custodians lost their lives. Fortunately all of the teachers and students survived. Starting from the Residence Halls, Bloom Nepal School needs $125, 000 in total funding to rebuild its facilities. Our goal is to help BNS raise $100,000 and oversee the rebuilding efforts through local partnerships. In August, Back on Track representatives traveled to Nepal to visit the BNS project site and spent 9 days getting to know about Nepali education system and the BNS project details.
