With an extended terminal and airlines ordering bigger, more efficient planes we could see up to 51 million passengers using the airport by 2040.
This will bring many more good local jobs and better connections to the world.
But we know it also increases pressure on local infrastructure – unless there’s a plan.
That’s why we’re launching our long-term plan for sustainable growth.
To put in place the measures now that will reduce that pressure later – on traffic, air quality and noise.
Infrastructure and then growth.
Not the other way round.
And it’s based on making the best use of what we have – a single runway within the same boundaries and no more flights than currently allowed.
