Backplane is an Open Source Cloud Abstraction API that simplifies multi-cloud governance and accelerates cloud native transformations. It enables cloud platform engineering teams to provision cloud environments and retrieve cost, access, and policy data through a REST API endpoint.
Backplane is designed for Cloud Engineers, DevOps, and Platform Engineering teams. It provides a cloud abstraction layer that eliminates the need for developers to understand the specifics of different cloud vendors' APIs. This speeds up custom integrations and reduces cognitive load on developers.
Currently, Backplane supports Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for provisioning, access control, and policy data. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Private Cloud are planned for future implementation.
Backplane is free to use and open source. It is maintained by Backplane Software Ltd and the community. Contributions are welcomed via the project's GitHub repository or participation in the Slack channel.
