Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) was established by the Act No.14 of 1994 of the Legislative Assembly by the Government of Gujarat. It was recognized under section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956 by University Grants Commission (UGC) All the programmes of the university are approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), University Grants Commission. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, is accredited with A++ Grade (3.55 CGPA on 4 Point Scale) by National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university has completed 28 silver years of a fruitful existence that has brought it to the forefront in terms of its academic excellence.
