Basha

We are a free service that gives you the tools to learn languages that are less common or lack adequate resources. With Basha, you are empowered to crowdsource learning from your local community. Our methodology and tools center around Spaced Repetition Learning (SRL) - recognized by most polyglots as the ideal way to begin a language-learning journey (think flashcards). You provide the translator and the will to learn, and we offer a comprehensive Anki deck of translatable phrases and a platform for your translator to record and export their audio. Why are we giving this away for free? Languages are going extinct at a rapid rate; the World Atlas of Languages warns that not only does an endangered language die every two weeks, but 1/3 of the remaining languages also have fewer than 1,000 speakers. This crisis is caused in part by the ‘melting pot’ mindset wherein immigrants and their children are expected to speak the host nation’s language exclusively. Basha is 100% free for all users because we care about saving these languages. We believe that when people have the tools to preserve their linguistic history, we can do our part to reverse the trend. Also, and you'll have to excuse our blasphemy, we don't believe that everything on the internet has to be monetized 😉.
