In the past 15+ years, BASTA has grown to being one of the largest housing rights non-profit organizations in Southern California that provides direct legal representation to low-income tenants. We have four full-service offices, nearly 20 attorneys, and boast many published cases where BASTA attorneys changed the law. We pioneered the right to a jury trial for eviction matters, a right now regularly invoked across the entire State by tenants facing potential eviction and homelessness. BASTA is a multi-faceted legal services provider that affirmatively seeks justice through mass action impact litigation, high volume eviction defense, and other affirmative individual lawsuits. We believe housing is a human right and are a founding member of the County of Los Angeles’ Right to Counsel Coalition.
