Batavion is a boutique consultancy and advisory group lead by Cihat Fitzgerald, former Head of Global Ecosystem Security & Integrity at Visa. His tenured career in the payments industry, at the fintech, banking, and network levels, has made him a recognized payments expert and advisor in managing risk, fraud control, trust & safety, and compliance. Batavion's clients consist of multinational marketplaces, ISOs, fintechs, acquiring banks, and vendors to the payments ecosystem. The name Batavion ties back to the region in the Netherlands where Cihat Fitzgerald’s roots lie, that the Romans called Batavia and home of the germanic Batavi tribe. Being located in the Rhine delta, now a region called the Betuwe, the Batavi were superior in engaging adversaries on horseback, fully armored, in the marshes and waters of the Rhine delta. Hence, the Batavi were enlisted into, and formed large component of, the Roman Legion as cavalry in Germania, as the Romans did not possess this ability.
