About Bayshore Discovery Project

The Bayshore Discovery Project is home to the schooner A.J. Meerwald, NJ's official state tall ship. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a focus on sail training, conservation and education of the history, culture and environment of South Jersey's rich bayshore communities. The Meerwald is a 1928 Delaware Bay oyster schooner. Her sparred length is 115' and widest beam is 23'. Her 3500+ square feet of sail are canvas, the material originally used in her era, and the lines are all manila fiber. Restored over a period of eight years from 1988 to 1996, she now sails as a classroom in the Delaware estuary and regionally. Visit our homepage to see the schedule of public sails and other special events.
