BCBT group Overview

The Biomass Conversion and Bioprocess Technology (BCBT) group is a leading research group at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) - Technical University of Denmark, dedicated to developing efficient and sustainable process technologies for the production of chemicals, food ingredients, biofuels and high-value compounds for different market sectors. Researchers at BCBT group work in a number of international projects across a variety of areas including, among others, biomass fractionation, hydrolysate detoxification, development of robust strains, bioprocess optimization, downstream processing and techno-economic assessment. Particular attention is given to implementing the biorefinery concept in our processes by using all components of renewable feedstocks, like dedicated crops, agricultural and forestry residues and agro-industrial by-products/side streams, in order to add the highest possible value while also contributing to the principle of “zero waste”.
