The Association of German Landscape Architects was founded in 1913. It changed its name to the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten bdla in 1972. Today, the bdla has around 1300 members in its 13 regional associations, including around 800 freelance landscape architects. It sees itself as a mouthpiece for self-employed, employed and civil servant landscape architects and for young professionals. The association is in contact with politics, administration, business and the public. The bdla represents the interests of the profession and contributes its expertise, for example, to construction and planning-related legislative projects. It also communicates the extensive skills of landscape architects to solve key future tasks such as climate adaptation, the energy transition and urban growth. Committed members support the association. They support each other and exchange views on technical issues and the demands of everyday professional life. bdla members contribute their expertise to regional, national and international bodies and committees. This lively cooperation is the basis for the work of the executive committee, specialist spokespersons, working groups and the federal office. Internationally, the bdla is active in the International Federation of Landscape Architects IFLA and IFLA Europe.
