Basingstoke & District Young Carers is a registered Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) committed to Supporting Young Carers Every Step Of The Way. We address the unique challenges young carers aged 8 to 18 face within the Basingstoke & Deane district. With an estimated 700,000 young carers nationwide (though the actual number may be higher), these resilient young individuals shoulder caregiving responsibilities that profoundly impact their lives. Young Carers are children and young people whose lives are significantly affected by looking after a parent or sibling with a disability or long-term illness. This may include conditions such as mental ill-health, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, addiction to drugs or alcohol, and other chronic health conditions. These young carers often undertake tasks not typically expected of someone their age, such as shopping, cleaning, cooking, managing finances, assisting with personal care, helping with medication, providing emotional support, and looking after siblings. At Basingstoke & District Young Carers, we are dedicated to raising awareness of these challenges and providing comprehensive support. We aim to ensure young carers can lead fulfilling lives while managing their caregiving roles.
