TAFE’s #FarmDost initiative aims to create an environment of admiration and respect towards the Farming community and the profession of Farming.
In a world with burgeoning populations and limited resources, today’s farmer feeds almost 10 times the number of people when compared to the farmer's in 1900's. And by 2050 this number will double! Farmers, once revered as the providers of kingdoms, are now almost invisible. TAFE understands just how hard farmers around the world have to work to feed millions of families’ world over. At the same time though, the value of the profession of farming has seen the significant decline over the years.
Keeping these things in mind, TAFE would invite you to join them in their journey of ‘Cultivating the World!’ through the #FarmDost initiative – to highlight all that our farmers are doing for us and create an environment of admiration and respect towards the farming community. It is a movement to celebrate the farmer in the public sphere and positively reintroduce farming into social consciousness.
The FarmDost initiative is simple: we want people of all ages, from all walks of life, to step into the shoes of a farmer, even if it is just for a short time. By encouraging people to cultivate a small piece of land, we want them to, feel the earth between their fingers, experience the joy of growing something, harvest a small crop of fruits or vegetables and in the process empathize with the farmer and gain a greater understanding of the farmer’s life. If people find it hard to take care of just one single crop, in one square foot of land, just imagine what the average farmer has to go through, day in and day out.
We want to spread the word through every cordon of society: that we need to take pride in farming. You too can help us spread the word, by being a #FarmDost and by participating in the events and activities we have planned.
