"Thriving Kids!", was developed in response to rising mental health issues among children. Mental health affects one in every six children from two to eight years old. Children's social and emotional development begins in their first five years and as a result of COVID-19, millions of children's mental health was affected. In order to combat this issue we developed a simple and effective solution. Working with a child psychologist we developed an interactive activity-based card deck divided into four sections; feelings, social, mindfulness, and yoga. As part of the feelings and social sections, children are taught the five skills of social and emotional learning, including self-awareness, self-management, decision-making skills, and social awareness. To truly impact children's lives, the mindfulness and yoga sections complement social and emotional development. The goal of Social Emotional Learning is to teach children skills from the outside in, but mindfulness emphasizes the importance of becoming aware of the connection between emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations from the inside out. Our low-cost solution makes this approach appealing to schools, counselors, and parents who want to actively participate in their children's development.
