Becky’s Button

The Becky’s Button Initiative is a global movement dedicated to enhance women’s safety and building safer communities for the next generation. Founded by Jane to honour her daughter’s legacy, Becky’s Button empowers women, raises awareness of sexual harassment (online and offline), and advocates for prioritizing women’s safety without commercialisation. With Jane’s leadership and the support of a global network of over 20 dedicated volunteers — many of them university students — the initiative has made a tangible impact by donating 7,000 personal safety alarms and delivering over 30 gender-based violence workshops and sessions across Greece, Lebanon and Jordan. Plans are underway to expand to Pakistan in 2025. By collaborating with university students and young leaders, the initiative is inspiring the next generation to take action and create safer communities. At Becky’s Button, we strive to create safer communities through practical actions and meaningful collaborations by: • Distributing Safety Alarms for Free: We provide free personal safety alarms to women in need, offering a simple yet effective tool to deter attackers and enhance security. • Collaborating with Local Communities: we partner with local organisations and university students, spreading awareness about GBV and fostering shared responsibility for safer spaces. • Raising Awareness of Gender-based Violence through Workshops and Sessions: Organising educational workshops to empower participants with knowledge and tools to address gender-based Violence, both online and offline.
