Beder International University

Beder International University (BIU), formally known as Beder International Academy (BIA), began in 2008 as a professional academy offering postgraduate and distance learning programmes. BIA’s first graduation ceremony was held in September 2011 with Professional Diploma Certificates presented to graduates in Islamic Banking and finance. By 2013 BIU transferred from sole proprietorship to a public trust with the assistance of a group of development activists. A beautiful campus was donated to the university with generous support from the Manhal Charitable Organization. Then on 27 August 2013, the Somaliland Commission for Higher Education officially changed the name of the university to Beder International University. The first group of undergraduate students matriculated in September2013 and new programmes were added to the university. BIU is located in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. It is a communal and non-profit university, accredited by the Somaliland Ministry of Education and Higher Studies. The main objective of BIU is to address the educational needs of society in the Horn of Africa at large, particularly Somaliland. It currently offers different programs in the fields of Islamic6 Economics and banking, modern management, leadership, Shari’ah, and business administration BIU is committed to providing quality education. It aims to cultivate exceptional students, thus enriching human capital both locally and internationally.
