About Begawan
Since its founding in 2001, Begawan Foundation has pioneered solutions to pressing issues in education, conservation and agriculture in Payangan, Bali. The foundation has more than 20 years of experience working with the local community for cultural preservation, providing quality progressive education for rural children, and establishing a breeding and conservation program for the endangered Bali Starling. In 2022, Begawan launched a regenerative farming initiative, with the goal of increasing income for local farmers and restoring soil health through natural cultivation of Mansur Heritage Rice. In 2024, Begawan is embarking on a new chapter with the launch of Begawan Biji – a farm-to-table destination restaurant that commits 100% of its profits to education.
