The Berkeley Chess School is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing the joys and wonders of chess with as many young people as possible through instruction in the schools and tournament play.
Founded in 1982 by Elizabeth Shaughnessy, a former Irish Women's chess champion, has grown from one after-school chess class to serving over 5,000 girls and boys in kindergarten through 12th grade in over 150 schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
