Beşiktaş, İstanbul’un bir ilçesidir. Adını İstanbul'un en eski semtlerinden bir olan Beşiktaş semtinden alır. 8,4 km uzunluğunda sahili olduğu İstanbul Boğazı’nın Rumeli yakasında yer alan ilçe batıda Şişli ve Kağıthane, güneybatıda Beyoğlu, kuzeyde Sarıyer ilçeleriyle komşudur. Yüzölçümü 18 km², nüfusu ise 182.649'dur.
Hem nüfus, hem de alan olarak İstanbul kentinin küçük ilçelerinden biri olmasına karşın iki kitayı ve İstanbul'un iki yakasını birbirine bağlayan Boğaziçi ve Fatih Sultan Mehmet köprülerinin bağlantı yollarını bulundurduğu için günlük ortalama 2 milyon kişiye ev sahipliği yapan canlı bir alandır. Bununla beraber sahip olduğu son dönem Osmanlı mimarisi eserleri, Boğaziçi yamaçlarındaki doğa manzaraları, dokuz üniversite ve Levent-Maslak hattındaki iş merkezleri gibi tarihi, kültürel ve ekonomik nedenlerle kendisini cazip kılan pek çok özelliğe sahiptir.
Besiktas is a suburb of Istanbul situated on the European side of the city within the boundaries of the Grater Istanbul Municipality. It ıs surrounded by Bosphorus on the east, the suburb of Sariyer on the north, Sisli on the west and Beyoglu on the south. Directly across the Bosphorus is the municipality of Uskudar. It covers area of 1520 hectares with an 8375 cost line along the Bosphorus. According to the census of 2000, the population of Besiktas is about 191.000 and it contains some of the best-known neighborhoods of Istanbul: Bebek, Etiler, Levent, Arnavutkoy, Ortakoy, Ulus, Nisantasi, etc. It is one of the oldest districts and neighborhoods of Istanbul, It’s also considered as one of the major city center, both residential and commercial especially for small businesses.
Several museums and palaces are also located within the boundaries of this large district, has many universities and their faculties within the district as well. It is the most major cultural center of Istanbul with its’ rich cultural heritage, historical monuments and museums:
