better with water is a French NGO and operates since 2008 in the Philippines. It took on the challenge to make cities more inclusive - where disadvantaged families can enjoy decent living conditions. To pursue this goal, it developed a model based on social entrepreneurship and proximity: better with water facilitated the creation of two entities - a local social enterprise and a local NGO. The social enterprise is a Filipino non-profit social business, and as direct provider of water service, puts up the water infrastructure (construction of the water network) as a small scale water operator providing clean, water to low income communities living in depressed Urban Areas and Relocation Sites. It currently has active partnerships with mainstream water service providers such as Metro Cebu Water District, Leyte Metropolitan Water District and Maynilad. TPA is responsible for (i) developing the water infrastructure network and its maintenance (piped drinking water with metered connections on household premises), (ii) ensuring water quality and (iii) billing and collecting the payments for the water. We are present in Cavite (south of Manila/Luzon), Leyte in Eastern Visayas, and in Cebu Province in Cities of Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay. The local NGO, provides capacity building to the communities and promote hygiene practices and awareness, fire prevention and natural disasters preparedness, community empowerment and diagnosis on waste and sanitation. So far, the organization has a total of around 32,000 beneficiaries in the Philippines.
