About BETTI project
BETTI is an Interreg Europe project that helps local and regional governments across Europe's smart cities and regions use generative AI (Gen AI) in a safe, fair, and effective way. As AI technologies evolve rapidly, it’s also raising important questions about ethics and responsibility. That’s where BETTI comes in! We support public authorities by giving them the tools, strategies, and policies they need to use Gen AI in a way that benefits people—while avoiding potential risks. It follows key principles like human oversight, transparency, fairness, and accountability, drawing inspiration from the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI. Who is involved Running from May 2025 to July 2029, BETTI brings together 10 partners from across Europe, including: - CISE – Centre for Innovation and Economic Development (Italy) - Province of South Holland (Netherlands) - Île-de-France Region (France) - West Regional Development Agency (Romania) - Emilia-Romagna Region (Italy) - Federal Institute for Development Planning (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - City of Jyväskylä (Finland) - Tallinn Strategic Management Office (Estonia) - Cluster of Mechatronics and Automation (Bulgaria) - Municipality of Kazanlak (Bulgaria) Why It Matters By working together, our regions share ideas, learn from each other, and improve how Gen AI is managed locally. BETTI helps us set standards and measure how trustworthy AI systems really are—making sure digital progress works for everyone. In short, BETTI is about guiding public institutions through the digital age with confidence and care, so Gen AI helps society in the right way. BETTI is funded under the INTERREG Europe 2021–2027 programme and co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
