Bettre.in is driving students in India to get better at thinking from first principles and at pursuing STEM careers . In an age of tiktok and shallower thinking, we’d like to encourage parents and students to enable their children to think about the core subjects in a logical manner. India and Indian companies have to compete with the US, EU, China and others in creating innovative globally successful products – this will only happen when enough students are empowered to first think in a more logical manner rather than either kowtowing to authority or jumping through exam-hoops. Additionally Indian Small and Medium scale enterprises mostly work hand-to-mouth and have no bandwidth to innovate. We need to empower SME’s with relevant technology that enables them to improve their work, especially in the manufacturing sector. BettRe’s axis of work, as a non-profit is to drive a national education mission of getting students to invent more. In the current scheme of things, only the top students from top schools get access to good research facilities and laboratories. We aim to democratize research thinking, such that the tougher problems of the world can have more minds applied to solving them. In India, we are taught to jump through the hoops. Many a times students are discouraged when they don’t do well at class and don’t get good grades – this needs to be changed and a more authentic drive to invent needs to be inculcated in society. Innovation sensitization must be encouraged and students must be encouraged to invent. This needs to seep down to the village level and not just top schools in top cities.
