The favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro are built within a Mecca of world class rock-climbing. Youth in these underprivileged communities are faced with an array of difficulties and negative influences like drugs, violence and gangs. Climbing can offer these youth a positive alternative to their daily struggles and even get them a job as climbing guides. BEYONDgear is working with the Centro de Escalada Urbana (CEU) to use climbing to change lives.
