The mission of the Bluford Healthcare Leadership Institute (BHLI) is to cultivate a workforce of diverse, culturally competent talent for healthcare leadership who will serve to eliminate disparities in healthcare. Our goal to eliminate health disparities and to improve health outcomes is accomplished by developing emerging leaders who will advocate for policies aimed to increase access to and the quality of care for vulnerable and minority patient populations. One hundred forty-five undergraduate scholars have been successfully mentored through Phase I of the leadership Institute, its 16 day annual executive workforce leadership development program held in Kansas City, MO. One hundred fourteen of the 145 scholars have completed their undergraduate degrees to date with 97/114 (85%) working in the healthcare field or pursuing related graduate degrees. We are making a difference!
