Big Red & Shiny

Big Red & Shiny is an online journal about contemporary art and culture. Based in Boston, we commission and publish articles, essays and reviews that explore the theory, history and reception of art in its current conditions, by experienced writers here and around the globe. Additionally, we use the web-platform to showcase original multimedia content in the form of short documentaries and time-based artworks. We welcome collaboration across disciplines and contributions by author-artist teams. We are interested in bold and thoughtfully-expressed ideas, as reflected in the artwork that stands alongside. By contrast, Our Daily Red blogazine is an informal venue for a dynamic and direct conversation about art and artists. Big Red & Shiny editors and guests write about "art with a Boston accent", meaning that the tone of our Blog can be relaxed and personal; posts can be brief or engaged; by and large (but not solely), we are concerned with events and news in Boston and the Northeast. We envision nurturing young, enthusiastic writers, as yet unpublished, together with published, mature voices that have been wanting for a platform. As in the Journal, we are interested in the particularities of the Internet and how these can be used to exhibit multimedia contributions.
