BioBlends is a start-up developing gas-based preservation solutions for the food industry. Our products extend the shelf life of food without affecting its properties, enabling manufacturers to develop clean-label products and preventing food waste due to contamination. We are addressing the critical challenge of food spoilage caused by contaminating microorganisms, which leads to significant economic losses, food waste, and environmental impact. One-third of all food produced is wasted, contributing to 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. While chemical preservatives are widely used to extend shelf life, they face increasing scrutiny due to consumer demand for clean-label, additive-free products. Existing alternative preservation methods often involve high costs, compromise food quality, or provide only limited protection. The industry urgently needs a sustainable, effective, and scalable solution to reduce food waste while maintaining product integrity. At BioBlends, we are developing gas-based bio-preservatives using bacterial volatile compounds that can eliminate contaminating microorganisms in food, extending its shelf life.
