About BioCat - Graduate School in Biocatalysis
BioCat facilitates career development for young scientists in the field of biocatalysis and protein science. We offer courses, webinars, workshops, networking events and grants to help PhDs develop their skills and build a professional network. __________________________________________________ The National graduate school in biocatalysis, BioCat, is established to provide expertise and tools for research and education within biocatalysis in Norway. BioCat is granted by The Norwegian Research Council for the period 2016 – 2024. BioCat is administrated from UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, and consists of six partner universities: UiT, NTNU, UiS, NMBU, UiO and UiB. The BioCat board consists of 12 members which are representatives from the universities and the institute sector/industry: SINTEF, IRIS, NOFIMA and NORCE. Through the partner universities we provide educational courses and networking opportunities to allow our members to academically develop and build professional networks. Our PhD courses are held by experts in the field at the respective partner universities. Topics include protein crystallography, molecular modelling, protein NMR, synthetic biology, bioprospecting, biorefining and much more. Our student members also have to opportunity to apply for travel grants – either for research stays, specialised workshops or conferences. BioCat additionally aims to bridge the gap between the biotech industry and our members, to prepare them for life after academia. We arrange an annual conference with invited speakers from both academia and the biotech industry. Here, we also give the PhD student the opportunity to present their science for a broader audience and receive feedback on both content and presentation skills. Although our conference has a scientific agenda, including poster sessions, we also prioritize team-building and social activities so that our members get to know each other and hopefully build long lasting relations.
