The Biocatalysis and Green Chemistry Research Group is active within the Faculty of Chemical Engineering Biotechnologies and Environmental Protection, currently, the most modern facility in Romania dedicated to higher education and research in the field of chemical engineering. The group is focused on research in enzymatic biocatalysis and green chemistry. The research directions encompass topics such as the development of biotechnological processes for the synthesis and degradation of biodegradable polymers, enzymatic synthesis of polymers, integration of computational methods for enzyme selection, enzymatic cascade systems, and biocatalytic reactions in reactive eutectic solvents. Additionally, the group explores the stabilization of enzymes through immobilization, biocatalytic reactions in continuous systems with or without solvents, pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass using unconventional methods followed by enzymatic hydrolysis, obtaining flavonoid derivatives through enzymatic biocatalysis, and assessing microbial biodegradability.
