About Bioinformatics Core Facility (BioCore), NTNU
The Bioinformatics Core Facility (BioCore) is dedicated to providing comprehensive bioinformatics support to researchers, doctors, clinicians, and biologists in their scientific endeavors. We assist with writing grant applications, planning experiments, analyses and interpretation of high throughput data and contribute towards the publications. Most of our projects are involved in study of gene regulation (microRNA, transcription factors, epigenetics), single cell data analysis, genome variation (SNPs) and prokaryote gene/protein analysis. We handle tasks ranging from simple ones like creating plots to more complex projects, such as developing specialized tools and pipelines for advanced analysis. We also provide bioinformatics courses, training and guidance for students and researchers. Our recent projects focus on developing personalized medicine for diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and lung cancer. These studies utilize patient sample data, and we specialize in sensitive data analysis and storage within the secure HUNT Cloud environment, and their subsequent submission to the Federated European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA) in Norway. Our users are mostly from NTNU and St. Olavs hospital and we closely collaborate with the genomics core facility, NTNU and HUNT Center for Molecular and Clinical Epidemiology to build a strong research support network locally. We also collaborate with other health authorities within Norway and internationally. As part of the Norway node of the European infrastructure for life science “Elixir”, we contribute towards bioinformatics infrastructure development both within Norway (tools, databases, data submission, helpdesk) and internationally (example EOSC-ENTRUST project which aims to create a European network of Trusted Research Environments for sensitive data).
