Flora naturals Private limited (erstwhile SM Bioleum Resources Private Limited) is a Renewable Energy Engineering company based out of Pune. Flora's promoters have been undertaking research and development activities for past 10 years. Flora's focus is on research, development and commercialization of cutting edge technologies to convert low energy density solid lingo-cellulosic biomass into a range of high density liquid bio-fuels and high quality gaseous fuels that not only substitute but completely replace fossil fuels. Flora has collaborated with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, for joint development of BTL technologies for India. National Chemical Laboratories (NCL), a premier Government of India institution based out of Pune, India, is the principal collaborator representing the CSIR for this joint development effort. This initiative is focused on a novel approach developed by Flora that combines thermo-chemical and bio-chemical routes for conversion of biomass into syngas and then converting it via Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis into ultra-pure transportation fuels such as Gasoline, Diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). Flora also closely works with a number of national labs, universities and IITs for creating and sharing a knowledge base in the BTL domain. Along with our partners, we have developed technology to generate, upgrade, store and dispense BioCNG (Bio-methane) as vehicular fuel confirming to all mandatory government standards. Our objective is to set up a decentralized and distributed network of small commercial BioCNG production and dispensing stations based on Fuel Flexible and Modular Architecture at county (Taluk) level across India. Our BioCNG plant uses special energy crop Hybrid Napier and Beena Bamboo, apart from other agro-residue as feedstock. India generates sufficiently large amount of agro-residue. Most of the biomass is treated as nuisance and simply burnt away. Ironically, the villages that hold this potential energy source are also suffering from energy shortages. Converting this abundantly available and unutilized biomass resource into energy is, therefore, the need of the hour. To ensure continuous and guaranteed biomass availability, we also have a separate division focused on Energy Plantations using Napier Grass and Beena Bamboo. This division has gained expertise in planting, harvesting, handling, and pre-processing raw biomass for its further conversion to bio-fuels.
