About BIOMAT Project
The main objective of BIOMAT is to establish an Open Innovation Test Bed (BIOMAT-TB) for providing services to a wide range of European industries and SMEs to accelerate and facilitate the uptake of innovation in nano-enabled bio-based cellular materials. BIOMAT consortium has identified a large demand for nano-enabled bio-PUR foams with huge markets. Thus, the BIOMAT project selected five of these targeted markets for proof of concept: Building, Construction, Automotive, Furniture & Bedding. BIOMAT-TB will be based on a technology transfer platform to produce advanced nano-enabled polyurethane (PUR) foams and novel active NPs (antibacterial or antifungal and flame-retardant silica, hydrophobic lignin, etc.), as well as technologies for inline monitoring, digital twin pilots, and nanosafety. These technologies will be transferred to the relevant SMEs and large industries. They will be backed up by services such as relevant business plans, life cost and life cycle assessments (LCC and LCA), and assistance in funds raising. Biomat is based on a multinational consortium of 26 partners, including universities, research centers, SMEs, large industries, and associations. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grand agreement N.º 953270.
